Application of Multichannel Scattering Theory to Pionic Reactions Within the Lee Model*

چکیده

The multichannel scattering theory is applied to the (2,2) sector of the (non-static) Lee model. Rigorous expressions for the transit ion amplitudes for two-fragments channels are derived. These expressions contain al l effects of off-shell renormalizat ion in a complete and consistent way. W i t h suitable identification of the elementary fields of the model the reactions considered correspond to a simplified description of elastic proton-proton and pion-deuteron scattering and to pion absorpt ion on the deuteron. W e obtain a two-body equation for the description of the elastic protonproton scattering and an extension of the two-potential formula for the pion-deuteron scattering, which can be cast into the form of the multiple-scattering series.

Neutron Pick-up Pion Transfer Reactions for the Formation of Deeply Bound Pionic Atoms in 208 Pb

We study (n, d) and (d, 3 He) reactions on 208 P b leading to deeply bound pionic atoms with one neutron hole being left. We develop a theoretical model to calculate cross sections of deeply bound pionic atoms and quasi-elastic pion production. The results are compared with data which have been obtained so far. We show that the theoretical model describes the data of both reactions well.
